CECILIA AHERN AND HER BOOKS

P.S I LOVE YOU

STORY:

Cecelia Ahern's debut novel, PS, I Love You, follows the engaging, witty and occasionally sappy reawakening of Holly, a young Irish widow who must put her life back together after she loses her husband Gerry to a brain tumour. Ahern, the twentysomething daughter of Ireland's Prime Minister, has discovered a clever and original twist to the Moving On After Death concept made famous by novelists and screenwriters alike--Gerry has left Holly a series of letters designed to help her face the year ahead and carry on with her life. As the novel takes readers through the seasons (and through Gerry's monthly directives), we watch as Holly finds a new job, takes a holiday to Spain with her girlfriends, and sorts through her beloved husband's belongings. Accompanying Holly throughout the healing process is a cast of friends and family members who add as much to the novel's success as Holly's own tale of survival. In fact, it is these supporting characters' mini-dramas that make PS, I Love You more than just another superficial tearjerker with the obligatory episode at a karaoke bar. Ahern shows real talent for capturing the essence of an interaction between friends and foes alike; even if Holly's circle of friends does resemble the gang from Bridget Jones a bit too neatly to ignore (her best friend is even called Sharon).

This book is absolutely fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone. Any girl who has been in love and lost it can relate to Holly in some way. Holly is a young girl from Dublin who has lost her husband to a brain tumour and is trying to cope with a life without him. But its not just Holly going through this, you feel as though are going through it too. This book made me smile and it made me laugh, but boy did it make me cry...it is so beautifully written i couldn't help crying or should i say sobbing...by the time i got to the end of the book i had a huge pile of tissues next to me, without them id have struggled to read another word through the immense amount of tears that were falling down my cheeks.
If you want a book to last you a few weeks i wouldn't recommend it as this is one book you wont want to put down and will end up finishing it days if not hours.
I have never enjoyed a book a so much.
Please read it...and i guarantee you will feel the same...Enjoy reading it!!!

WHERE RAINBOWS END

STORY:

I bought ‘Where Rainbows End’ because I’d enjoyed ‘PS, I love you’ so much. This book is chick lit at its best but done in a different style. As others have said the book is presented as e-mails from the main characters to each other over a period of many years. It sounds confusing and I have to say that I wasn’t convinced when I bought the book. However, after the first few pages I was well into the swing of things and really enjoyed the new style. With this type of book you can usually tell which direction it’s going but I have to say I wasn’t sure until the very end how things would turn out. I like that in a book because I sometimes find chick-lit books extremely predictable which can be very annoying. But not ‘Where Rainbows End’. It keeps you laughing, cringing and guessing right till the very end.

A very enjoyable read. ‘If you could see me now’ has just been released so I’d better order my copy!
